The Mackenzie District isn't called the #legendarymackenzie for nothing! This district is full of incredible history, scenery, and experiences.
Make sure you check out the official Mackenzie Region website to find specific information on what you might want to do while you are in the area over race weekend.
TRAVEL TO LAKE TEKAPO
Lake Tekapo sits in the heart of the Mackenzie District in the South Island. The closest airport, in Timaru, is only an hour away from Lake Tekapo.
The closest International Airport is in Christchurch City, a 2 hour and 40 minute drive away. Alternatively Queenstown is 2 hours 50 minutes away, which also hosts an International Airport, and Dunedin is 3.5 hours away.
Whatever way you look at it, Lake Tekapo is on your doorstep.

ACCOMMODATION
Lake Tekapo has many accommodation options available to competitors in The Mackenzie race. Luxury apartments, motels, backpackers, a campground, and holiday homes.
Fairlie is 30 minutes and Twizel is 40 minutes from the start line. Both of these towns offer plenty of accommodation options and are less than a morning commute away for most city dwellers!
GLENMORE CAMP CITY
Want to make race weekend even more of an adventure? Glenmore Camp City gives you the chance to stay right at the home of The Mackenzie by Devold, with on-farm camping available on both Friday and Saturday nights. Wake up on race morning already at the Race Village, ready to go - just step out of your tent or camper and soak up the atmosphere with your fellow riders and runners.
Sites are $25 per night, per site, with toilets and fresh water provided. This is high-country camping, so come prepared for all weather and remember that overnight temperatures can be cool - pack the warm gear and settle in for a pretty special Mackenzie experience.
